Eric Blair was born on 25 June 1903 in Motihari (India) in a family of British commercial agent.

Orwell taught at St.. Cyprian, in 1917, received a nominal stipend and until 1921 attended Eton College. From 1922 to 1927 he served in the colonial police in Burma, then had lived in the UK and Europe, nourishing themselves with odd jobs, but then began to write fiction and journalism. Since 1935, published under the pseudonym "George Orwell". He is a Member of the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939 (book "Homage to Catalonia", 1938, essay "Remembering the war in Spain", 1943, published in full in 1953), which ran close to the manifestations of factional struggle among the Left.
After returning from Spain,
Orwell wrote a book about the Spanish Civil War, but his longtime publisher Victor Gollancz refused to publish it, referring to the fact that the book may be harmful to the struggle against fascism.
Orwell wrote numerous essays and articles critical social studies and cultural nature. During the Second World War he led an anti-fascist program on BBC.
The writer died in London of tuberculosis January 21, 1950.


Literary career


         During the civil war in Spain, Orwell fought on the side of Republicans in the ranks of parts POUM. He wrote a documentary novel "Homage to Catalonia" (born "Homage to Catalonia") in 1936 about this events.
          In the novel "Animal Farm" (1945)
he showed degeneration of revolutionary principles and programs.
          Roman-dystopia "1984" (1949) was a continuation of "Animal Farm". Orwell depicted a possible future world society as a totalitarian hierarchical system based on sophisticated physical and spiritual bondage, pierced by a general fear and hatred. In this book the first time sounded familiar expression "Big Brother is watching you," and introduced became widely known terms "doublethink", "thoughtcrime" and "Newspeak".
